Are you an artist, crafter, or interiors enthusiast with practical skills, looking to learn the art of picture framing. Would you like to know how you can elevate your artwork and display it in the professional way it deserves? I'm now offering personalised one to one picture framing courses in your own studio, or workspace at home?
With 10 years of industry experience, I will guide you through various accessible techniques using simple hand tools to achieve professional finishes. You’ll learn using a combination of raw materials and outsourcing parts of the framing process so expensive machinery and space is not needed. Whether you want to enhance pre made frames or frame from (almost) scratch, this course can be tailored to what you would like to learn. I can also accommodate one or two more people for an extra charge.
How to measure your artwork to design different frame specifications

Experimenting with different coloured samples and mouldings to create exciting original designs
How to safely mount an artwork using conservation hinging techniques
Walking you through different materials and suppliers
How to join a frame when buying a chop service from a supplier
How to create a box frame using pre made or hand cut spacers
float mounting artwork using different methods
Preparing a frame before adding a finish
Wood or hand painted finishes
Different Hanging systems and sealing up the back of a frame
What glass to use and how to order cut to size pieces, and correct cleaning methods
How to order a professional cut window mount for your artwork
Window mount cutting can be taught, but please be aware this would involve buying a good mount cutter after for continued professional results
Please note although we will put a frame together, I don’t offer how to chop a length of frame profile from scratch to join the frame. I can of course talk this process through with you, teaching you where to buy the best mouldings and what’s possible in your own studio and how to outsource when needed. You can of course use your own chop saw at your own risk.
I’m currently based in North Cornwall and happy to travel as far up as Bristol and down to Lands End. Prices start at £40 per hour (min 3 hours) or £195 - £240 per day depending on distance and if any specific materials are required.
